History
The MarketPlace at The Oaks is proud of its rich heritage. The Live Oak Gift Shop was founded in 1982 and managed for many years by the late Marjorie Beene (Beenie) Winkler and the late Carolyn Beaird. These dedicated volunteers stocked the shelves with modest gifts from their world travels as well as hand-crafted items from local artists.
Today, MarketPlace staff visit markets in Dallas to continue the tradition of filling the shelves with affordable items that delight our residents, their families and our employees.
Just as early residents enjoyed a trip to the gift shop, today’s residents stop by to see the new merchandise, greet friends and, often, enjoy a snack while sitting on the expansive porch of the Clubhouse or in the comfy chairs inside.
